About the farm

Welcome to The Story Book Farm Sanctuary, where every chapter is filled with compassion, care, and commitment to the welfare of animals in need. We are a haven for animals, a place where their stories of hardship are rewritten with love, hope, and a promise of a brighter future.

Our Mission

At The Story Book Farm Sanctuary, our mission is clear: to rescue animals in need and provide them with a safe and loving home within our community. We believe that every life is valuable, and we are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of animals and humans alike.

Our Values

Compassion, empathy, and respect for all living beings are the values that drive us. We are dedicated to creating a world where animals are treated with kindness and dignity.

What We Do

Rescue and Sanctuary

Our primary focus is rescuing and providing sanctuary for abused, neglected, and abandoned animals.

Adoption

We are passionate about finding responsible and loving forever homes for the animals in our care.

Education

We believe in teaching the importance of spaying and neutering to prevent further suffering, as well as responsible pet and farm animal ownership.

Fostering

We collaborate with local humane societies to foster baby animals, seniors, and animals with special needs.

Endangered Species

Our commitment to wildlife conservation extends to providing homes for endangered species, such as the critically endangered Chocolate turkey. We believe in preserving biodiversity and protecting animals on the brink of extinction.

Meet the Animals

Sydney

Sydney is our 7 year old resident emu.  She is one of the most popular residents when we have guests stop by the farm, and has lived here since she was 3 days old!  Emu lay beautiful emerald green eggs from around November until March each year, and lay anywhere from 20-50 eggs per season.  Male emu are the “momma birds” in the emu world, and incubate the eggs, and hatch and raise the chicks.  If you’re ever here at our sanctuary for a visit, you might hear what sounds like a bass drum- but that is the sound Sydney makes!  Female emu make a drumming sound, while male emu cannot drum, but make a grunting sound instead.

Many people are under the assumption that emu are mean, but as with all animals, although they each have their own personality, Sydney is not mean at all, and actually enjoys meeting new friends.  We hope one day you are able to meet our special girl!   And since emu can live to be 30 years old or more, you have plenty of time!

Snoop Hogg & Winnie the pig

Snoop is the patriarch of our pig rescue and sanctuary.  Snoop is our original pig here, and came to us as a month old piglet who was abandoned by being thrown over a fence at a farm near Crystal River, Fl.  We went to pick him up, and fell in love with the little pink piglet-who would grow to be a whopping near 400 pounds!  We believe Snoop is half potbelly pig and half “farm pig”.  But no matter what kind of pig he is, he is loved so much and we wouldn’t trade him for the world!

Winnie came to us not too long after Snoop.  She is a sweet, sassy girl, and is as smart as they come.  As the resident “boss lady”, she has her own stall in the barn that she shares with 2 of our other girls, Blue and Petunia.  Winnie will occasionally be going to mobile petting farm events, so you may very well get to meet her one day!

Big T

Big T (“Big Tom”) is our resident Chocolate tom turkey.  Chocolate turkeys are a heritage breed which are considered critically endangered, therefore they are the only species of animal on our farm that we breed and raise to try to do our part in helping to conserve these beautiful birds.  In addition to Big T, we have our Chocolate turkey hen, Mayflower.  This spring, we look forward to Big T and Mayflower hatching some of their beautiful speckled eggs.  Turkeys have the biggest personalities, and will follow you around like dogs do.  They are curious, like to be involved in whatever projects are going on, and demand your attention most of the time.  Since Big T will also be going on petting farm events, we look forward to introducing everyone to this awesome guy!
